Coffee Love: Breakfast Under Acropolis

By on December 7, 2015

I was meeting with my friend K. at the center of Athens a few Sundays ago for a cup of coffee, so I considered it a great opportunity for a breakfast under Acropolis!!

The weather was lovely, all sunny and warm, welcoming you to sit outside and enjoy it, so I grabbed my camera and left home a little earlier than I was supposed to do for my meeting.

Makriyianni street is one of the best pedestrians Athens can offer and my personal favorite.

Always alive, full of nice little shops and people. It calms and brings joy to me, either to walk on it, sit at a coffee shop or eat an ice cream -mostly during summer. It is easily accessible either by car or by the metro, since the “Acropolis” stop is actually on the street.

You know the all day bistro/delicatessen, named after the street itself, Makriyianni 3 cafe’?

As far as I know it`s really popular to both, locals and tourists.

The first time I sat at that place was after running at the Authentic Athens Marathon and my friends and I needed a good breakfast to catch our breaths and rest. We had a nice time back then, and using my experience as a guarantee, I chose it again.

So I guess I really like that place.

It is so small and cosy, located under the rock of Acropolis, minutes away from the area of Thiseio and only a few meters away from the Acropolis museum.

The bistro is famous for its open sandwiches and home-made soft drinks, which is what I am planning of ordering next time I`ll visit it.

I like its friendly and quick service and I think that the prices are normal for the size and quality of the food served.

As I was waiting for my friend to join me, I sat at a small table at the inner side of the shop, so I could enjoy my book and my breakfast  undisturbed.

So, next time you are on the street, have a look for an empty table & enjoy a quick bite at Makriyianni 3 bistro!

You may be lucky enough to enjoy a couple of minutes of live music, played by that talented couple with the violins.

Marianthi, xo
